MCF pilot course (airplanes)

Maintenance Check Flights (MCFs) are among the most demanding and safety-critical operations in aviation. Our MCF Pilot Course equips professional pilots with the skills, procedures, and regulatory knowledge to take part in these operations with confidence.

Target Group:

  • Airlines and Business Jet Operators who want to have legally qualified pilots for aircraft check flights after maintenance.
  • Pilots who perform demonstration and technical flights for MROs or agencies.

Course Content – Theoretical Modules

  • Legal framework & EASA regulations for MCF
  • Crew composition, roles & responsibilities
  • Flight program design, ATC coordination & briefing procedures
  • Environmental conditions: weather & visibility requirements
  • Aircraft status, flight preparation, limitations & checklists
  • On-board instrumentation & parameter monitoring
  • CRM, crew coordination & emergency procedures
  • Ground checks & engine runs
  • Taxi & rejected take-off techniques
  • System verification: flight controls, autopilot, hydraulics, electrics, APU, fuel, de-icing, navigation, landing gear, engines & relight procedures
  • Review of typical failure cases during MCF
  • Post-flight debrief & analysis

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion, participants will be qualified to:

  • Act as First Officer or observer/task specialist during MCF Level A flights.
  • Understand the regulatory, operational, and technical framework of MCFs.
  • Apply advanced CRM, decision-making, and emergency handling techniques in a high-risk test environment.
  • Participants receive Certificate of completion in accordance with EASA SPO requirements.

Get direct qualification as PIC for MCF flights on your type with a live MCF flight on a Citation Jet, usually conducted from Friedrichshafen or Altenrhein Airport.

Course duration

  • Total duration: 4 days
  • 2 days online theory via Zoom/Teams
  • 2 days in Prague:
  • Day 1 – classroom & preparation for simulator
  • Day 2 – practical training in a B737 Full Flight Simulator (FFS)

Course venue

Minimum entry requirements

  • ICAO CPL or ATPL with valid type rating
  • Minimum of 1 000 flight hours, of which at least 400 hours as a pilot in command in complex motor-powered airplanes

  • Good command of English language 
  • Minimum participants: 3 for the base course / 2 for the optional flight
